This 2021 Tran-seasonal collection, ‘shuāng’, is Xi’s personal exploration of her bicultural identity. Xi wants to share the story of her bicultural upbringing and hopes to create something that will resonate with individuals who may share the same experience.

Innovative tailoring techniques produce transformative garments that incorporate both Eastern and Western design codes. Xi’s garments have a minimal aesthetic, focusing on details and fabrications. Modern technologies such as laser cutting and technical materials are merged with traditional fabrications to evoke a sense of the old meeting the new. Customary textile techniques, such as quilting, are paired with reflective elements in Xi’s modern reinterpretation of the story of her heritage. Xi intends to create something new by attempting to find balance in all these contrasting elements.
